Hi, I’m Elana, the plant enthusiast and founder of The Houseplant Diva! I'm a native New Yorker, but currently reside in Raleigh, NC with my husband Landon and our rescue pup, Fergus.

My journey into the professional world of plants began in the retail and leasing side of the green industry, where I gained hands-on experience that helped me develop a deep love for houseplants. One of my first roles was as a Plant Technician for a plant leasing company. I cared for plants on a large scale in corporate and retail spaces, learning essential skills in lighting, watering, pest control, fungal management, and plant maintenance—knowledge I continue to use every day.

I later joined a large, established Garden Center in the heart of downtown Raleigh as their Marketing Specialist, a role that allowed me to immerse myself in the world of plants like never before. I wasn’t just creating marketing campaigns—I was spending time guiding customers in the greenhouse, learning about every plant I could, organizing community events, and teaching houseplant care classes. I had the privilege of working alongside experienced industry professionals who generously shared their expertise, helping me grow my skills and deepen my knowledge. While I developed a love for all kinds of plants, houseplants became my true passion.

After my time at the garden center, I stepped into the role of manager at a houseplant shop. There, I connected with my local plant-loving community, answered endless care questions, and hosted hands-on workshops. Those experiences inspired me to launch The Houseplant Diva, where I could share my love of plants, create a welcoming community, and help others discover the joy of houseplant ownership.

When I’m not working with plants, you’ll often find me immersed in another passion of mine—opera! I hold a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance and gig as a professional opera singer, combining my love for creativity and expression on stage. While my academic background isn’t in horticulture, my true expertise lies in sharing joy—whether through the beauty of nature or the art of music.
